The Chapel of the Crucifixion The mystery of the cross has been pondered for centuries. The image of Jesus on the cross is a powerful reminder of the passion, death and resurrection of God's only son. It is also an invitation to identify with the cross and the paschal mystery. As you look at the sculpture of the dying Jesus, know that He is also looking down at you. On Good Friday, this same cross alone will be stationed in the very center of the Chapel for veneration by the faithful. Father Richard S. Vasko, Liturgical Design Consultant Transparent gold and yellow glass is stained with silver stain (a stain from the middle ages, which is transparent). The stain is not completely predictable. The shapes are broken up. It weeps. This chapel is meant to be a place where people can grieve. Ellen Mandelbaum, Commissioned Artist |
