The Baptismal Font

One of the spiritual crossings that every Christian makes is baptism. It is a passage into new life with Christ. The old person is taken off. A new one is born. Made with a stone taken from the Marian Woods property, the font of living water is a reminder of baptism. Initiation into the Church is the first of many passages one will take in life. Touch the water and remember the dates of your baptism, your confirmation your first communion, your profession of vows, your marriage, or your ordination. Although baptisms will most likely never occur here at Marian Woods, the rites of Christian death and burial will. The font is also the place where the ritual vigil for the deceased members of the community is celebrated.

The Book of Gospels used during the Liturgy of the Word is reserved in a special ambry near the font. The gospels teach us about the life of Christ who touched and healed so many. The holy oil is used to anoint the sick and dying members of the Marian Woods community. They are also reserved as a reminder of the miracles of Jesus.
